Dapsy chief blasts tardy delegates

GEORGE TOWN: DAP Socialist Youth (Dapsy) national chief Anthony Loke has hit out at the state Dapsy for the poor turnout at its convention yesterday, saying he was disappointed with the lack of discipline and commitment shown by the delegates.

He said only 40% of them had turned up. “I also noted that the delegates had no sense of punctuality. The event was supposed to begin at 2.35pm; we only started at 3.05pm because there was not enough quorum.

“Even though I am from Negri Sembilan, I was already in Penang by 9am,” he said in his speech when opening the convention.

He said Dapsy members here should buck up. “They have to behave and act as members of the Youth wing of a party in governance in this state. The people of Penang have given Pakatan Rakyat a golden opportunity to perform. This could be our first or last opportunity.”

About 50 delegates cast their votes at the convention, which saw incumbent state Dapsy chief Yeoh Soon Hin retained as chairman.

Incumbent deputy chairman Lau Eng Kee was also retained.

The two vice-chairmen are Lim Siew Khim and Seri Delima assemblyman R. S. N. Rayer.

Komtar assemblyman Ng Wei Aik retained his post as secretary.
